TEACHING READING
Mengajarkan Membaca

  1. Perhatikan soal-soal yang selalu muncul di dalam Ujian Nasional (UN), seperti:
a.       Passive voice
b.      Modal
c.       Conditional sentence
d.      Tenses
e.       Conjunction
f.        Transitional words, etc.
  1. Usahakan tutor dapat membuat daftar materi soal UN berdasarkan jenis-jenis dan pengerjaannya.
  2. Meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas kosa kata siswa melalui membaca keras atau lantang (enlarging vocabulary).
  3. Proses pembelajaran dapat diarahkan kepada soal-soal dalam Ujian Nasional (UN).
  4. Kemampuan siswa untuk menterjemahkan teks bahasa Inggris harus ditingkatkan.
  5. Terdapat sebagian besar kalimat-kalimat bahasa Inggris didominasi oleh bentuk noun phrase.
  6. Tutor harus mampu mengajak peserta didik untuk mampu memilah atau menentukan part of speech ataupun jabatan kata-kata dalam sebuah kalimat.

Catatan:
a.       Ar. : Article
b.      Adj.: Adjective (kata sifat)
c.       N   : Noun (kata benda)
d.      V   : Verb (kata kerja)
e.       S    : Subject (Pelaku)
f.        P    : Predicate (sesuatu yang dilakukan oleh pelaku)      
  1. Untuk memahami sebuah teks atau bacaan, grammar adalah sebuah ilmu wajib bagi siswa yang harus dipelajari agar dapat menerjemahkan teks bahasa Inggris dengan baik (well translation).
  2. Pembentukan kata-kata:
a.       agree – disagree
b.      conclude – conclusion
c.       able – unable – enable

Kesimpulan (Inferences)
  1. Lakukan yang terbaik (do the best)
  2. Kosa kata sangat penting dalam pemahaman teks (vocabulary is important and don’t forget it anyway)
  3. Pemahaman kontekstual teks (contextual meaning all the time)
  4. Ajarkan grammar yang mengacu pada soal UN (teach grammars dealing with National Exam.)
  5. Jemput bola.
TEACHING WRITING
Mengajarkan Menulis

Proses-proses menulis:
1.     Planning
2.     Drafting
3.     Editing (reflecting and revising)
4.     final product

Proses Kegiatan Belajar Mengajar (KBM) writing:
1.     Membuat rencana
2.     Membuat draf dan mengkoreksinya
3.     Tutor menghampiri peserta didik dan merespon tulisan mereka
4.     Pemanfaatan waktu yang tersedia secara efektif.

Prinsip-prinsip mengajarkan menulis (writing):
1.     Fasilitasi kebutuhan peserta didik dalam menulis
2.     Berikan kesempatan sebesar-besarnya kepada peserta didik untuk berltih menulis secara berkala
3.     Berikan penjelasan yang mudah dipahami oleh peserta didik

Latihan-latihan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis:
Latihan ini dibagi dalam dua bagian.
Bagian I: Punctuation
1.     Penggunaan huruf besar yang benar
2.     Penggunaan singkatan-singkatan yang benar
3.     Penempatan tanda tanya yang benar
4.     Penggunaan ungkapan perasaan yang benar
5.     Penempatan tanda koma yang benar
6.     Penempatan tanda petik yang benar
7.     Penempatan tanda ungkapan langsung (“….”) yang benar
8.     Penggunaan tanda kurung yang benar
9.     Penggunaan tanda strip (-) yang benar
10. Penggunaan tanda titik dua (:) dan titik-koma (;) yang benar

Bagian II: Konteks menulis fungsional
1.     Peserta didik mampu membuat postcard
2.     Peserta didik mampu membuat notes atau message
3.     Peserta didik mampu membuat undangan
4.     Peserta didik mampu membuat cerita.

A BOY'S DREAMS Once upon a time, there lived a handsome boy who lived in a country. He was a very popular person with his big dreams. He dreamt to have a beautiful wife someday, yet he never had even a single girlfriend at all. Then he wanted to be a scholar, but he didn't want to make a progress in his study.
